The corona-induced lockdown had led the school, colleges, hostels shut-in Bihar from March 15 onwards. The spread of this ongoing virus wasn’t that easy to tackle. As a result, the students and working professionals were locked and turned digital for their work and studies. The lockdown developed the work from home culture. For students, online classes were made mandatory to attend. However, the onset of 2021 has come up with good news that hostels, colleges, and schools are about to reopen from 4th January in the entire Bihar. The government has prepared the SOP’s and made it mandatory for the institutions to follow them strictly. For schools, only secondary sections (9th to 12th class students) are allowed to go to school. The rules are the same for college students. Social Distancing and masks are a must which was drafted and announced by the Union Ministry of Home Affairs.

How Hostel Life of Students Got Affected in Bihar In the Lockdown?
The Covid-19 pandemic has affected the hostels’ management and operations. Students returned to their native home and waited for the entire year for them to reopen. Bihar Government started to give relaxation from the month of August-September-2019. However, hostels were still closed with vacant rooms in the entire nation. It was difficult for the students to attend their classes as institutions shifted their entire teaching practice online. Students who commuted from remote areas of Bihar faced immense difficulty with the accommodation.

Time For Reunion! Hostels in Patna reopens from 4th January
2021 is arriving with the good news that hostels will reopen for the students as per the guidelines set by the union ministry. There are boys hostels in Patna in different locations that are prepared to open their hostels and PG’s with the set guidelines. Moreover, girls hostels in Patna are implementing special security services along with COVID-19 precautions before opening. They are all set to welcome students after 10 months of long lockdown. 

Reopening of Hostels In Patna- No Risk of Transmission
One of the threats that can affect the reopening of hostels is the transmission of coronavirus. To avoid such a situation, the hostel authorities have planned to follow certain protocols like:

  • Use of hand sanitizers whenever the students enter or exit from the hostel premises. 
  • Students will be restricted to gather in a large number for any party or mass gathering in a single rn oom.
  • Food will be provided by maintaining social distancing. Proper hygiene standards are to be maintained in the kitchen. 
  • Cooks will have to wear face masks, face shields, and disposable gloves while cooking and serving.
  • Sanitizers to be provided in every hostel room and floors.
  • Maximum only 1 sharing room is to be allotted to the students to maintain social distancing. This means one room will have only 2 students at a time. 
  • An isolation facility is mandatory. Any student who feels any asymptomatic can be isolated in such rooms for transmission. 

How Hostel Students can Stay Safe from COVID-19 Infection?Students staying in top hostels in Patna must follow few guidelines strictly to avoid any infection:

  • Wash your hands regularly with soap and water for 20 seconds. Avoid touching any surfaces that are not cleaned or sanitised.
  • Keep sanitising your hands with 90% alcohol-based sanitiser. 
  • Do not share your utensils, cups, snacks, and drinks. 
  • Do not touch your face, eyes, mouth, and nose. 
  • Do not stigmatise your friend if they feel sick. This might affect them psychologically.
