NIT Rourkela is a publicly funded institution for Engineering, Science, Technology, and Management education. Formerly, it was a regional Engineering College. The institute was granted autonomy in 2007 and became one of the National Institutes of Technology. The skilled and experienced faculty is responsible for the ever-growing reputation of NIT Rourkela. The institute is also ranked 20th as per the NIRF ranking for Engineering category, 2021 and 41 according to overall NIRF Ranking, 2021. NIT Rourkela secured 31 rank in the research category in the NIRF 2021 Ranking. 

NIT Rourkela has academic departments related to the fields of Engineering, Science, Humanities and Management. The institute offers courses at undergraduate, postgraduate and doctoral levels in various disciplines. There are separate eligibility criteria and fee structures for each course. The candidates willing to take admission to any course in the NIT Rourkela must fulfil the eligibility criteria to fill and submit the application form. 

Currently, NIT Rourkela is offering four courses at the undergraduate level – B.Tech, B.Arch., B.Tech-M.Tech Dual Degree, and Integrated M.Sc. The duration of the B.tech program is 4 years, and for B.Arch, Integrated M.Sc. and B.Tech-M.Tech Dual Degree is 5 years. The institute offers four courses at the postgraduate level, including M.Tech, M.A., MBA, and M.Sc. The duration of all the postgraduate courses is 2 years. NIT Rourkela also invites applications for the Ph.D. programme in different areas of research. Through these courses, the institute ensures students' overall development and prepares them for the professional world.
