NIT Surathkal was established in 2002 and was formerly known as Karnataka Regional Engineering College (KREC). It is one of the thirty-two National Institute of Technology in India and also recognised as Institute of National Importance by the Government of India. The National Highway 66 runs through the campus and it has a close proximity to the Arabian Sea. Established by the efforts of U.Srinivas Mallya and V.S Kudva, the campus is spread over an area of 295 acres. NIT Surathkal has secured 40th rank in research catgory in NIRF Ranking 2021. The institute has secured 10th rank in the Engineering category in NIRF 2021 Ranking with an overall score of 64.19/100. It has also secured 32nd rank in the overall category in NIRF 2020 Ranking.

 

The primary motto of the NIT Surathkal is to facilitate transformation of the students into good human beings, who metamorphosize into responsible citizens and through professionals, that focuses on generation, assimilation and dissemination of knowledge. With a faculty of approximately 256 members, the National Institute of Technology Karnataka, Surathkal is dedicated to guiding its students to achieve successful career goals.  

 

NIT Surathkal houses a staff club, post office, hostels, schools (English medium and Kannada medium),swimming pool and others that offer service to both the staff and the students who are pursuing their academic degree there. With an amalgamation of 13 departments ,1 school, 12 supporting centres, 245 highly qualified and dedicated faculty,  166 committed supporting staff and 6000 talented and motivated students along with 25000+ distinguished alumni the National Institute of Technology Karnataka has been ranked 44th among the top universities
