National Institute of Technology Agartala was formed in the year 1965 as Tripura Engineering College and it was affiliated to Calcutta University with the adoption of the curriculum structure of Bengal Engineering College. After several decades of development, the National Institute of Technology Agartala was approved by AICTE and renamed as the National Institute of Technology and then deemed as an “Institute of National Importance” in the year 2006. NIT Agartala was formed with the vision to create highly competent professionals in science, engineering and management to match both the national and international standards in education. The National Institute of Technology Agartala works with the mission of providing techno managerial human resources and acts as one of the institutes for technical education in Southeast Asia.
NIT Agartala aims to help with the economic development and intellectual resource development of both the region and the nation with committed professionals in the education system. National Institute of Technology Agartala is spread across an area of 366 acres with a faculty strength of 104 and student enrollment of 3803 in total. It provides a total of 52 courses of study at the undergraduate, postgraduate and doctoral levels with state-of-the-art facilities and infrastructure.
NIT Agartala is a AAA+ rated institution with a 12 crore investment in the infrastructure of the institution in facilities such as library, computer centre, wireless internet. The National Institute of Technology Agartala works with the objective to influence the entering of pro technical practices in both government as well as private sectors through its programmes including Consulting and research. The technical knowledge in NIT Agartala is sought to be provided to students to become entrepreneurs acting as engineers of growth and providers of solutions. In 2021. NIT Agartala has been ranked 92nd among engineering institutions whereas, in 2020, the college was ranked 75th in the same category.
