The varsity is recognised by the University Grants Commission (UGC). NAAC has accredited the university with an 'A'+' grade. Thapar Institute of Engineering and Technology is ranked 23rd as per the NIRF 2021 ranking for the engineering category and 45th in the overall category. Further, the varsity has been ranked 26th in the NIRF Ranking 2021 in the university category, 42nd in management category and 38th in research category.
