Indian Institute of Technology, Bombay was established in 1958 in Powai, Mumbai (earlier known as Bombay) as the second IIT in all of India with external financial assistance. The Indian Institute of Technology Bombay is commonly known as IIT Bombay. The then Soviet Union funded IIT in Roubles through UNESCO and it was declared as one of the “Institutes of National Importance” by the Indian Parliament through a decree in 1961. IIT Bombay has grown to become one of the top universities for technical education all over the world. Recognized as a leader of engineering education worldwide, the Indian Institute of Technology, Bombay has produced outstanding students with intellectual calibre through its undergraduate and postgraduate programmes. The institute has exceptional faculty reputed for international research contributions and won several prestigious awards such as Padma awards, Shanti Swaroop Bhatnagar. As per NIRF Rankings 2021, IIT Bombay has been ranked 10th in the management category with an overall score of 68.08 whereas, in 2020, the institute was ranked 11th in the same category. Indian Institute of Technology Bombay has secured 3rd rank in the engineering, overall and research category in NIRF Rankings 2021.
